I have often read about the good works of famous people, but there is not one celeb or household-word person in this wonderful book. Just average Jane's and John Doe's doing way-above-average things. They just have an abundance to love and energy to share. Bravo, Linda! Let's start an epidemic.
I use it to encourage my students to value acts of kindness. It makes you want to be part of something bigger than yourself and to experience love given out that comes back to you. Quick read. Each couple of pages is a story of it's own.
I was would brought up to believe that charity begins not ony at home, but also in the community. By conventional definition, only wealthy people are considered philanthropists. But every day, many non-wealthy indiviuals, like those in "Love Is The New Currency" make multi-billion dollars non-cash contributions in spirit, emotions and dedication to coutless people in their neighborhoods, their nation and internationally. Linda Commito's book "Love is the New Currency" captures and shares with us some of these wonderful people and their stories.

This is a joyful, soul-quenching read. Love Is the New Currency is a bold call to action, focusing my attention on the countless people and numerous ways love and kindness is expressed in my day to day life - rather than on the ever present negativity in the world that I believe is increasingly fueled by our attention to it. It caused me to reflect on the number of people in my small circle of friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances, who are deeply caring and kind and how many of them volunteer their precious time for a cause, work in the service of people and animals or care for our communities and the environment. The good we do builds a stronger world, especially when multiplied by the number of caring people on the planet. Love Is the New Currency reminds me to hold this perspective, and I feel empowered with renewed compassion and belief in humanity. Love Is the New Currency heightened my awareness of the tiny (some as soft as a whisper) and life-size acts of kindness taking place right before my eyes at every moment.
